WASHINGTON— Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota, tonight accepted the Democratic National Committee’s nomination as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate.

Tim Walz is no “nice” guy. He made the deaths of preborn babies a keystone issue of his administration and would work hand-in-glove with Kamala Harris to expand abortion on demand and use our tax dollars to pay for it.

Pro-abortion groups know this. Several key abortion groups were featured tonight during the convention, and they demanded more. More abortion, everywhere, anywhere, and for any reason. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz would promote and push the killing of unborn babies on the American public and have yet to hear of an abortion they would oppose. 

If elected, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz would be the most extreme pro-abortion administration in history.

WASHINGTON — A Planned Parenthood affiliate announced they will be offering free chemical abortions at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The following is a statement from Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life:

It’s disgusting that Planned Parenthood will be on hand at the Democratic National Convention to do chemical abortions. Each chemical abortion ends the life of an unborn child and puts her mother’s life at risk. 

Even the Food and Drug Administration admits that these drugs will fail or lead to complications for a number of women. When hundreds of thousands of women each year take these pills, even a couple of percentage points of women hemorrhaging, dealing with infections, or facing ectopic pregnancies means thousands of women desperately seeking emergency treatment, which may or may not be nearby. 

Planned Parenthood’s priority is abortion—anytime, anywhere, and for any reason—regardless of the lives lost. 

Planned Parenthood’s presence at the Democratic National Convention isn’t surprising. The Democratic Party’s fanatical support of unlimited abortion is a core part of their agenda and killing babies and endangering women’s lives is crucial to the party’s identity.

WASHINGTON— On Thursday, the National Right to Life Committee, Inc. (NRLC) issued requests for records relating to the Army’s designation of it as a “terrorist group” during a training event at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, on July 10, 2024. Shockingly, the training event included a slide listing National Right to Life under the bold, all-caps heading, “TERRORIST GROUPS,” as well as bullet points listing examples such as “Pro Life” and “Oppose Row [sic] v Wade.” Were these baseless and sweeping vilifications of NRLC and pro-life people in general not appalling enough, the slide also mentioned peaceful pro-life activities, such as sidewalk counseling.

In a scathing indictment, Representative Jim Banks (R-IN), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Military Personnel, together with numerous Republican colleagues, sent a letter to Christine Wormuth, Secretary of the Army, demanding answers about who vetted these training materials, whether this was an official Army policy, and whether Secretary Wormuth would commit to actions ensuring such outrageous “terrorist” classification of pro-life groups like NRLC and its members would not occur again.

Now, seeking further answers, the Bopp Law Firm, PC, headed by James Bopp, Jr., general counsel for NRLC, has used the federal Freedom of Information Act, commonly known as “FOIA,” to seek further information about this “terrorist” designation on NRLC’s behalf. The firm sent FOIA request letters to five entities up the military chain of command, from Fort Liberty itself up to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, seeking documents (including electronic documents, such as email communications) pertaining to this training in particular or to any Army policy or decision that targets pro-life people, activities, or beliefs. FOIA requires the release of a broad range of records possessed by government agencies such as the Army. Accordingly, FOIA requests such as these are an essential tool in uncovering the government official or agency from which this targeting originated.

“That those tasked with defending the American people should use their power to create dangerous, politically-based labels is outrageous. This is precisely the opposite of how our founders intended for federal power to be used,” said Bopp.

“It is stunning that training tools used by the U.S. Army vilified a well-recognized, peaceful pro-life group such as National Right to Life,” said Carol Tobias, president of NRLC. “The U.S. Army needs to answer why its training materials lied about the nature of pro-life work in general and specifically about National Right to Life.”

Women and Unborn Babies Will Be the Losers

WASHINGTON—Today, Vice President Kamala Harris announced her selection of Tim Walz, governor of Minnesota, as her running mate for the Democratic presidential ticket.

“If elected, a Harris-Walz Administration would push for the most extreme abortion agenda policies of any administration,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are both radically pro-abortion and see the lives of precious unborn babies as disposable inconveniences.”

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are both abortion apologists who represent the most extreme pro-abortion position of the Democratic Party.

“Tim Walz has made his support of unlimited abortion a foundation of his administration,” continued Tobias. “Both Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have yet to hear of an abortion they would oppose.” 

Tim Walz supports using tax dollars to pay for abortions. He signed the repeal of Minnesota’s Positive Alternatives Act which had provided support for pregnant mothers and funding for pregnancy help centers.

Tim Walz supports a policy allowing unlimited abortion for any reason throughout pregnancy. He signed legislation to enshrine a “fundamental right” to abortion for any reason until birth in Minnesota law and invalidate existing protections like the state’s parental involvement law.

Before becoming governor, Walz represented Minnesota’s 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007-2019. During his time in Congress, Walz earned a 0% pro-life rating from National Right to Life.

“Kamala Harris’ selection of Tim Walz is in keeping with her entrenched support of unlimited abortion,” said Tobias. “Walz, like Harris, is fully entrenched in his support of abortion anytime, anywhere, and under any circumstances.”

When running for governor, Walz was endorsed by pro-abortion groups supporting unlimited abortion, including Planned Parenthood Action Fund and NARAL Pro-Choice America (now called “Reproductive Freedom for All”).

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Josh Hawley and Representatives Ann Wagner, Mark Alford, Sam Graves, Eric Burlison, and Jason Smith received the endorsements of National Right to Life and its state affiliate Missouri Right to Life for their reelection bids in 2024. In the race for the open seat in Missouri’s Third Congressional District, the groups endorsed Dr. Bob Onder. Each of these endorsed candidates is committed to advancing protections for unborn babies and their mothers.

The slate of endorsed Missouri candidates opposes the government’s use of tax dollars to pay for abortions. Senator Hawley and all six House candidates support the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, a bill that would limit taxpayer funding for abortions on a government-wide basis with exceptions when the life of the mother is at risk or in cases of rape or incest.

The candidates support the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, a bill sponsored by Representative Wagner in the House, that would ensure that an infant born alive during an attempted abortion is afforded the same degree of medical care as any other newborn of the same gestational age.

On January 18, 2024, the five House incumbents voted for the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act to ensure pregnancy help centers remain eligible for state-directed federal funds through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. They also voted for the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act to strengthen existing requirements for higher education institutions to publicly disclose the rights and resources available to pregnant and parenting students.

The entire slate of endorsed candidates opposes the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, a sweeping piece of legislation proposed by pro-abortion Democrats that would enshrine unlimited abortion until birth in federal law and eliminate existing protections for unborn children and their mothers, including those currently in place and saving lives in Missouri. 

“These courageous candidates stand against Congressional Democrats’ radical pro-abortion agenda, which calls for a nationwide policy allowing unlimited abortion for any reason, even until the moment of birth,” added Tobias. “We urge Missouri voters to elect these pro-life candidates to Congress so they may work to build an America where life is protected, and women and families receive the care and support needed to make life-affirming decisions.”

WASHINGTON—Joe Biden today announced that he would not run for president and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

“If elected president, Harris would press on with this Administration’s extreme agenda supporting expansionist policies that push abortion on demand at any time, anywhere, and under any circumstances,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Kamala Harris is radically pro-abortion and sees the lives of precious unborn babies as expendable.”

Kamala Harris is an abortion apologist who represents the extreme pro-abortion position of the Democratic Party.

“Kamala Harris has acted as the unofficial Abortion Czar of the Biden-Harris Administration,” Tobias continued, “She has toured the country pushing unlimited abortion and criticizing protective state laws that support women and their preborn children.”

As a presidential candidate in 2019, Kamala Harris campaigned on requiring states that have historically passed pro-life laws to seek “preclearance” from the Justice Department before enacting any new laws protecting preborn babies and their mothers. Laws passed in those states would be legally unenforceable under a Harris Administration without preclearance from the Justice Department.

Vice President Harris supports the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortions. While serving in the Senate, Harris voted against the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” which would establish a permanent, government-wide prohibition on federal subsidies for abortion and for health plans that cover abortion with narrow exceptions.

Vice President Harris also supports the “Women’s Health Protection Act,” a bill that would enshrine unlimited abortion until birth in federal law and do away with virtually all existing protections for unborn children and their mothers on both the federal and state levels, including parental involvement laws.

Senator J.D. Vance opposes the Biden-Harris push for a sweeping federal law allowing unlimited abortion for any reason until birth.

Like President Trump and the majority of Americans, Senator Vance believes tax dollars should not be used to pay for elective abortions at home or abroad and is a co-sponsor of legislation in the Senate.

Senator Vance shares President Trump’s commitment to nominating qualified judges who will interpret the Constitution as written and not legislate from the bench.

Senator Vance also supports assisting pregnant women and families in need as well as community-based pregnancy help centers, unlike Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who seek to undermine the work of these community-supported centers.

“Senator Vance brings a strong pro-life background to the Republican ticket, which contrasts with the extreme pro-abortion position of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris,” said Tobias.

WASHINGTON – According to documentation circulating on social media and confirmed in a statement by Fort Liberty, an anti-terrorism briefing created by a local garrison employee equated National Right to Life with terrorist groups and accused NRLC of fomenting violence and clinic bombings.

“In a presentation that is deeply offensive to pro-life Americans across the nation, Fort Liberty promoted outright lies about National Right to Life in a demonstration of lazy scholarship,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “In our over 50-year history, National Right to Life has always, consistently, and unequivocally, condemned violence against anyone.” 

The presentation accused pro-life Americans of “terrorist activities” if they opposed “Row v. Wade [sic],” supported pregnancy centers, participated in sidewalk counseling, displayed pro-life license plates, or were involved in other peaceful activities.

Continued Tobias, “One must wonder how a license plate that raises funds for pregnancy resource centers could be construed as a symbol of terrorism.”

National Right to Life’s retired logo was used on the slide as an example. 

“Only under the Biden Administration can peaceful law-abiding citizens and their peaceful activities be considered ‘terrorism’” said Tobias. “The Biden Administration promotes the deaths of preborn babies and advocates for unlimited abortion, but peaceful pro-life Americans are labeled ‘terrorists.’”

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court issued a 6-3 decision in Moyle v. United States dismissing the case as “improvidently granted.” The decision reinstates the lower court’s pause on the Idaho law in question while litigation continues in the lower courts.

National Right to Life was seeking a ruling on the merits, however, the Court made clear that this case needs further lower court resolution. The state of Idaho had argued that the government’s interpretation of EMTALA would render Idaho’s pro-life law nearly unenforceable and would turn hospital emergency rooms into “federal abortion enclaves governed not by state law, but by physician judgment, and enforced by the United States’ mandate to perform abortions on demand.”  But, during arguments, the U.S. government went on record claiming they were doing no such thing.

Justice Barrett, in her concurring opinion, notes that the

…United States disclaimed these interpretations of EMTALA. First, it emphatically disavowed the notion that an abortion is ever required as stabilizing treatment for mental health conditions…. Second, the United States clarified that federal conscience protections, for both hospitals and individual physicians, apply in the EMTALA context.

During the oral argument, the federal government identified numerous emergency medical conditions, and Idaho confirmed that they could ALL be treated under state law. 

“The Biden-Harris Administration has worked side-by-side with the abortion industry to expand unlimited abortion throughout all 50 states,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “The Biden-Harris Administration has deliberately created confusion and fear by claiming that women cannot and will not receive the emergency care they need.” 

Tobias continued, “We were pleased to see the U.S. government changing its tune during oral argument, going on record to state that they are not trying to turn emergency rooms into elective abortion facilities. We hope the courts hold their feet to the fire on this promise.” 

National Right to Life looks to the lower courts to uphold the Idaho law which, like laws in all 50 states, explicitly allows care for miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and treatment in a medical emergency. EMTALA does not conflict with pro-life state laws—women can and will be able to get ongoing care for emergencies.

Condemns the Actions of the Biden-Harris Administration and Its Pro-abortion Allies

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade. In the decision, the Court wrote:

The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives.

“With Dobbs, the Court correctly decided that a right to abortion is not in the Constitution,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Dobbs gives the American people, through their elected representatives, a voice in protecting the right to life.”

The legacy of the Roe v. Wade decision is the loss of nearly 65 million unborn children and the immeasurable harm it has done to women. While states work to protect unborn children, it is deeply disappointing that the Biden-Harris administration is running roughshod over the good work states are doing by promoting unlimited abortion at every turn.

President Biden supports the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortions and has used numerous legally fraught administrative actions to push abortion into pro-life states. He has called for the elimination of the Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal funds from being used to pay for abortions in many federal programs. President Biden has pledged to sign the “Women’s Health Protection Act,” a bill that would enshrine unlimited abortion until birth in federal law and do away with virtually all existing protections for unborn children and their mothers on both the federal and state levels, including parental involvement laws.

“Two years later, instead of working to protect innocent human lives and working to create safety nets for women in need, pro-abortion groups and their sympathizers, including the Biden-Harris administration, have doubled down on promoting unlimited abortions and protecting the abortionists who do them,” continued Tobias.

Some of these actions include:

• Under President Biden, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended safeguards established for women undergoing chemical abortions, such as seeing the abortionist in person. The in-person requirement helped to prevent complications resulting from an ectopic pregnancy, which can be fatal and can only be diagnosed with an in-person evaluation. Biden’s FDA also now permits pharmacists to dispense abortion drugs, and it even allows abortion drugs to be sent by mail.
• President Biden’s Department of Veterans Affairs has begun to pay for and provide abortions for “health reasons,” defined broadly as to be for any reason. This has been statutorily prohibited since 1992. In addition, the Biden Administration’s Department of Defense is paying the travel and transportation costs for military members and dependents to travel to obtain elective abortions.
• In an effort to override protective pro-life state laws, the Biden administration issued guidance in July 2023 asserting that EMTALA requires access to unlimited abortion. The federal EMTALA law regulating emergency rooms exists to protect patients, not create a right to elective abortion. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to release a decision in Moyle v. United States regarding the Biden administration’s attempts to twist EMTALA into an abortion mandate.
• Biden has vowed to veto legislation like the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” which would apply Hyde principles on a government-wide basis. 

“The Biden administration has made every effort to promote unlimited abortion,” said Tobias. “It has ignored the mother and her unborn child and vilified efforts by the pro-life movement to protect the most innocent among us.”

WASHINGTON— The four incumbent Republicans who represent Arkansas in the United States House of Representatives, Rick Crawford, French Hill, Steve Womack, and Bruce Westerman, received the endorsements of National Right to Life and its state affiliate Arkansas Right to Life for their reelection bids in 2024. Each congressman demonstrated his commitment to advancing protections for unborn babies and their mothers.

“National Right to Life is pleased to endorse Representatives Rick Crawford, French Hill, Steve Womack, and Bruce Westerman for re-election this November,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “We commend the Arkansas Congressional Delegation on their pro-life voting records and principled leadership on behalf of defenseless unborn babies and their mothers.”

All four representatives oppose the government’s use of tax dollars to pay for abortions. All four are co-sponsors of the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, a bill which would limit taxpayer funding for abortions on a government-wide basis with exceptions when the life of the mother is at risk or in cases of rape, incest, or medical emergency. Throughout each of their terms, they have voted to preserve pro-life appropriations riders like the Hyde Amendment, which has saved an estimated 2.5 million lives since it was first introduced in 1976.

All four representatives co-sponsored and voted for the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act to ensure pregnancy help centers remain eligible for state-directed federal funds through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. They also co-sponsored and voted for the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act to strengthen existing requirements for higher education institutions to publicly disclose the rights and resources available to pregnant and parenting students.

In contrast, electing their Democratic opponents could swing majority control in the House to the Democratic Party and hand the Speaker’s gavel to pro-abortion New York Congressman Hakeem Jeffries. House Democrats maintain as a top legislative priority the passage of the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, a sweeping bill which would enshrine unlimited abortion until birth in federal law and eliminate existing protections for unborn children and their mothers, including protections currently in place and saving lives in Arkansas. 

“In addition to advancing protections for unborn babies and promoting alternatives to abortion for their mothers, the Arkansas Congressional Delegation has pushed back against the radical pro-abortion agenda of House Democrats, who continue to call for a nationwide policy allowing unlimited abortion for any reason,” added Tobias. “We urge Arkansas voters to re-elect these leaders to Congress so they may continue to deliver results for many of our society’s most vulnerable members.”
