WASHINGTON — Today, pro-life President Donald Trump encouraged pro-lifers by video while Vice President J.D. Vance addressed the annual March for Life in person.

Marchers were also encouraged by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in addition to other members of Congress. 

“The support of President Trump, Vice President Vance, Majority Leader Thune, and Speaker Johnson for the pro-life movement is a tremendous blessing and encouragement to the millions of pro-lifers all across the United States who spend their time, money, and energy helping women and their children,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. 

Tobias continued, “Governor DeSantis and other members of Congress inspired pro-lifers, praised pro-life wins, and spoke of the work yet to do.”

In his recorded remarks, President Trump said:

As you know, this annual March started 52 years ago for the first anniversary of the disastrous ruling known as Roe v. Wade, that unconstitutional decision took power away from the states and the voters, kicking off 50 years of division and anger. But thanks to your tireless work and devotion across five decades, that historic wrong was set right three years ago…In my second term, we will again stand proudly for families and for life. We will protect the historic gains we have made and stop the radical Democrat push for a federal right to unlimited abortion on demand up to the moment of birth and even after birth.

Vice President Vance speaking to the marchers said:

[T]he crowd assembled here in this incredible National Mall provides an extraordinary example for our nation. You donate to diaper banks. You help find housing for those in need. You help fund the crisis pregnancy centers that give help to young women and young men in a time of crisis. You guys are the beating heart of the pro-life movement, and you’ve saved many lives already, and you’re going to save more again…This very March is a reminder of the incredible strength and unity of the pro-life movement. And from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for being here and thank you for marching here today.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune told marchers:

You stand here today to bear witness to the beauty and goodness of every human life, to remind people of the great truth upon which our country was founded, that all men and women are created equal and endowed by the Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are the right to life, the liberty and the pursuit of happiness…

You are part of a great movement united around the truth that every life is precious, that every human being is created in the image and likeness of God and has infinite value and worth. 

Speaker Johnson encouraged marchers by saying:

America is premised on the self-evident truth that every single person is made in the image of our Creator God, and thus every single person has inestimable dignity and value, and your value is not related in any way to the color of your skin or what zip code you live in or what you do for a living. Your value’s inherent. It is given to you by God…

[T]ogether, we are rebuilding a culture of life, and it begins now by sharing your time and influence, by volunteering to assist pregnancy resource centers, all the very practical ways that we can assist. 

Using our voices, using our influence, it’s going to make a difference.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who led opposition to a pro-abortion state constitutional amendment which was defeated, told marchers:

Here is what you should be asking your elected officials to do on the issue of the sanctity of life: show courage in defense of the unborn. That’s what we need from the people that we elect to the office. The sanctity of life does not depend on poll results. It doesn’t depend on which way the wind is blowing. It’s an enduring truth, and it represents the foundation of our society, which in our original founding document, which we will celebrate next year, the Declaration of Independence, declared that we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, and we are endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, beginning with the right to life itself.

WASHINGTON — Today, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act passed in the House of Representatives in a largely party line vote of 217-204.

Protecting babies born alive following an abortion should not be complicated. Pro-abortion Democrats in their dogged determination to support the abortion industry, claim that the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act would somehow interfere with unlimited abortions. Nothing could be further from the truth. There is no such thing as a “post-birth abortion.” This bill isn’t about a so-called right to abortion. It’s about stopping infanticide.

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act is life-saving legislation designed to protect a baby who is born alive following an abortion. 

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act requires that, when a baby is born alive following an abortion, health care practitioners must exercise the same degree of professional skill and care that would be offered to any other child born alive at the same gestational age. It also requires that, following appropriate care, health care workers must transport the living child immediately to a hospital. 

Current federal law does not sufficiently protect a child born following an abortion.

WASHINGTON — Today, the Biden administration released a list of what it considers successes of the last four years including the unprecedented push to promote unlimited abortion.

It is ironic that the list of “accomplishments,” as seen by the Biden administration, began with a quote from the Declaration of Independence. When it comes to abortion, this administration operated on the premise that we are “born” equal, rather than “created equal” as our Founding Fathers unequivocally stated.

For four years, President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris supported unlimited abortion, promoted abortion from the Oval Office, and engaged in fearmongering rooted in lies manufactured by Big Abortion in a post-Dobbs propaganda campaign.

The Biden-Harris administration prioritized a radical abortion agenda: unlimited abortions for any reason, even as a method of family planning and even late in pregnancy—right up until birth—and using American tax dollars to pay for it. The Biden administration employed a whole-of-government approach to promoting abortion, using every lever of power at its disposal to make abortions more available and more common, with no thought of the innocent unborn children who will die. 

President Biden and Vice President Harris were nearly single-minded when it came to their priorities in office: promoting their support of the abortion industry and the killing of vulnerable preborn babies.

WASHINGTON — National Right to Life is relieved by today’s Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) ruling in the case of Beatriz v. El Salvador. While some media outlets have sought to frame this decision as a rebuke of El Salvador’s pro-life laws, the Court notably did not address the question of abortion. Instead, it focused on other aspects of healthcare access and governmental procedures in the country.

Raimundo Rojas, CSO Representative to the Organization of American States for National Right to Life, emphasized the significance of the Court’s restraint:

Despite the clamor of abortion advocates, the Court wisely chose not to wade into the political waters of abortion. This is a crucial reminder that the fundamental right to life remains a core value across much of Latin America. El Salvador’s commitment to protecting both mother and child remains intact.

The case revolved around Beatriz, a young woman with a high-risk pregnancy in 2013. Abortion advocates seized on her situation to push for changes to El Salvador’s pro-life laws. However, Beatriz ultimately received the medical care she needed, including an early delivery via C-section. The case was later brought to the IACHR, alleging violations of her human rights related to access to health care.

The Court’s most critical finding centered on deficiencies in El Salvador’s health care system, particularly in its ability to provide timely and comprehensive care in complex medical situations. Notably, the ruling did not question or challenge El Salvador’s protective pro-life laws, affirming that these laws remain within the nation’s purview.

“This ruling underscores the importance of strengthening health care systems to ensure that every mother receives the support and care she needs, without resorting to the violence of abortion,” said Rojas. “We stand with the people of El Salvador as they continue to champion a culture of life.”

WASHINGTON — On Tuesday, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the 2023 decision by U.S. Magistrate Judge Debora K. Grasham that blocked the enforcement of Idaho’s abortion trafficking law.

We are pleased with the decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that Idaho’s law protecting minor daughters can be largely enforced. Idaho’s law protects minors from those who would circumvent parental rights by transporting a minor girl within the state to obtain an abortion. This law protects both the unborn child and her mother. 

Idaho’s law is based on National Right to Life’s model law. National Right to Life congratulates its Idaho affiliate, Right to Life of Idaho, for its work and efforts in seeing the law passed and upheld.

WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its annual “Abortion Surveillance Report” for the year 2022. The numbers show a decrease in abortions from the 2021 survey.

Relying on reports from health departments across the country, the CDC reported 613,383 abortions for 2022 compared to 625,978 abortions for 2021. While the CDC’s “Abortion Surveillance Report” is an indication of abortion trends, this figure does not provide a complete picture of abortion in the United States. California (the nation’s most populous state), Maryland, New Hampshire, and New Jersey did not report abortion data to the CDC.

For context, it is important to remember that the 2022 report spans the pre-Dobbs and post-Dobbs U.S. Supreme Court decision in June 2022 that reversed Roe v. Wade.

“With this report, the pro-life movement is encouraged to see the impact of pro-life legislation in states that passed laws to protect unborn children and their mothers from the tragedy of abortion,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Sadly, in states where legislatures and governors have pushed for unlimited abortion, abortion numbers rose. Nevertheless, we are optimistic to see that overall, there appear to have been fewer abortions performed in the U.S. because of these new laws.”

Tobias continued, “The pro-life movement recognizes that there is still much work to be done to protect innocent unborn babies and their mothers.”

In 2022, in the reporting areas included in the report, the CDC found an abortion rate of 11.2 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44 years, which is a decrease from 2021. The CDC found a ratio of 199 abortions per 1,000 live births, which is a decrease from 2021. 

“Unfortunately, the CDC report does not paint an accurate picture of abortion in the United States because of incomplete data,” continued Tobias. “It is imperative that Congress move to create a federal reporting requirement, so the CDC has better data on the impact of abortion.”

Tragically, based on Wednesday’s report, the percentage of chemical abortions performed rose to 57.6%. 

“The CDC report shows that the use of the chemical abortion method continues to rise,” said Randall K. O’Bannon, Ph.D., director of Education and Research for National Right to Life. “Women are not being told the truth about these painful and dangerous abortifacients and until they are, the numbers will continue to grow. The FDA’s relaxation of safety standards of the drugs and the media’s and abortion industry’s incessant sales campaign have helped to increase sales of the drug combination.” 

Dr. O’Bannon continued, “Promoters of these pills claim high safety and satisfaction rates, but neglect to mention how painful and bloody these abortions are, and how often women taking these pills end up in emergency rooms hemorrhaging, dealing with infections, and undiagnosed ectopic pregnancies. Unscreened women getting these pills in the mail may not be near help when they need it. More women, more babies will surely die.”

Sadly, the CDC also reported five deaths from legal abortion in 2021, the latest year numbers are available.
