WASHINGTON — In recognition of his consistent pro-life voting record and steadfast commitment to advancing greater protections for unborn babies and their mothers, National Right to Life endorsed Representative William Timmons for re-election in South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District.

“We are pleased to endorse William Timmons for re-election to Congress,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Congressman Timmons has a proven record of standing on the side of life. Timmons voted for legislation to protect unborn babies from gruesome late abortions, to shield American tax dollars from being used to pay for unlimited abortions for any reason, and to offer critical support to pregnant women and their families.”

Congressman William Timmons voted for the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, a bill which would limit taxpayer funding for abortions on a government-wide basis with exceptions when the life of the mother is at risk or in cases of rape, incest, or medical emergency. He also voted to uphold pro-life appropriations riders like the Hyde Amendment, which limits taxpayer funding for abortions in many federal programs and is credited with saving more than 2.5 million lives since it was first adopted in 1976, according to conservative estimates.

Congressman Timmons voted for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would ensure that infants who survive attempted abortions are afforded the same degree of medical care as any other newborn of the same gestational age.

Congressman Timmons voted for the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act to ensure pregnancy help centers remain eligible for state-directed federal funds through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program and the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act to strengthen existing requirements for higher education institutions to publicly disclose the rights and resources available to pregnant and parenting students.

By contrast, Kathryn Harvey, the presumptive Democratic nominee, opposes even the most basic protections for unborn babies, including those who have detectable heartbeats and the capacity to feel pain. Harvey has outright called for the repeal of the commonsense protections currently in place in South Carolina. If elected to Congress, she would bring Congressional Democrats one vote closer to their goal of codifying a sweeping, nationwide policy allowing unlimited abortions for any reason until birth and using Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars to pay for it.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court today hears oral argument in Moyle v. United States (consolidated with Idaho v. United States) concerning the Biden Administration’s attempt to mandate abortion on demand throughout all fifty states in hospital emergency rooms.

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) was enacted in 1986 and contains a duty to both a pregnant woman and her unborn child. The act never mentions abortion.

NRLC’s brief argues that Biden’s attempt to force hospital emergency rooms to perform abortions under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) is contrary to that federal law which was only meant to protect emergency room patients from being dumped and does not mandate that the hospital provide medical care that is contrary to state law.

“Apparently, Joe Biden and his administration have determined that emergency rooms are no longer capable of providing care for both mother and child,” said Tobias. “The Biden Administration’s solution is to turn hospital emergency rooms into abortion facilities.”

WASHINGTON — Planned Parenthood released its 2022-2023 annual report late Tuesday, and it shows that Planned Parenthood continues to perform a record number of abortions.

The service figures in this latest annual report cover October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022. The report includes numbers for approximately three months following the June 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Women’s Health Services that overturned Roe v. Wade. 

For the year the annual report covers, Planned Parenthood performed 392,715 abortions, or about 4 in 10 abortions, and abortions outnumbered prenatal care 62 to 1.

“Planned Parenthood has gone beyond the pale in its hardline promotion of abortion for any reason and at any time,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “The abortion giant’s primary mission to destroy unborn children cannot be clearer.” 

Tobias continued, “Planned Parenthood has continued its aggressive abortion advocacy, and is uncompromising in its promotion of unlimited abortion. The nation’s largest abortion provider continues to perform abortions at an unprecedented rate.”

Planned Parenthood took in a record $2.054 billion in revenue making the abortion giant one of the nation’s most profitable “non-profits.”

Planned Parenthood boosted its abortion numbers by facilitating “transportation and travel support, financial assistance, and referrals.”

Of the over $2 billion in revenue, $699.3 million (34%) of Planned Parenthood’s revenue came from taxpayers in the form of “Government Health Services Reimbursements & Grants.”

“Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report shows that the abortion industry giant puts abortion above all other pregnancy-related services,” said Randall K. O’Bannon, Ph.D., director of Education and Research for National Right to Life, one of the right-to-life movement’s most authoritative experts on the Planned Parenthood.

Most of Planned Parenthood’s expenses went toward “medical services,” which came in at $1.144 billion. It is impossible to estimate how much of these expenses were for performing abortions because Planned Parenthood does not make these numbers public and the prices for abortions vary regionally at Planned Parenthood affiliates. In addition, the cost of different abortion procedures varies based on how old the unborn baby is at the time of the abortion, making even general calculations impossible.

Planned Parenthood’s annual report also shows that prenatal services and adoption referrals, already rare at Planned Parenthood, were the lowest numbers in over a decade.

• Just 6,316 women received prenatal care at Planned Parenthood clinics.
• Just 1,721 women were referred for adoptions.

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris is visiting Arizona today to showcase the Biden-Harris Administration’s radical support of unlimited abortion.

“Kamala Harris has become the abortion czar of the Biden Administration,” said Carol Tobias, president of the National Right to Life Committee.

“National Right to Life praises President Trump for his work in ensuring that the wrongly decided Roe v. Wade was abandoned to the garbage heap of history,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “In his first term, President Trump demonstrated extraordinary leadership and delivered historic results on behalf of vulnerable unborn children and their mothers.”

Tobias continued, “Thanks to President Trump, the American people and their elected representatives on the state and federal levels now have greater authority to determine abortion policy and pass meaningful protections for unborn children and their mothers. Efforts on the federal level include undoing pro-abortion policies enacted by Joe Biden based on a wish list of the abortion industry.”

●    President Trump opposes the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, also referred to as the “Abortion Without Limits Until Birth Act,” an extreme bill pushed by Democrats that would enshrine unlimited abortion in federal law and policies and tear down virtually all protections for unborn children and their mothers on the state level including laws requiring parental involvement before an abortion is performed on a minor.

In contrast, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been almost laser-focused on promoting the administration’s support of the abortion industry and the killing of vulnerable preborn babies.  Florida Supreme Court Decision Will Allow Extreme Abortion Initiative to Appear on the November Ballot

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Florida Supreme Court issued two separate decisions today impacting the right to life for preborn children and their mothers in the state of Florida.

“We are pleased that Florida’s laws protecting preborn children were upheld,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “However, the court is allowing an extreme and detrimental ballot measure to move forward.”

In a 6-1 ruling, the Florida Supreme Court upheld Florida’s law protecting preborn children from most abortions after 15 weeks. The decision paves the way for additional protections for preborn babies beginning at 6 weeks.

In a 4-3 decision, the court ruled in favor of a broad ballot measure for a constitutional amendment that would allow abortions up to the moment of birth. The ballot initiative, if passed in November, would provide no protections for preborn children, its vague language would allow abortion for any reason and would allow abortions to be performed by any “healthcare provider” or non-physician.

Tobias continued, “Florida has made tremendous advances in protecting innocent human life and providing support for mothers. This ballot initiative would destroy Floridians’ hard work in creating a culture that supports and protects life.”

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The U.S. Supreme Court heard oral argument today regarding the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) decisions in 2016 and 2021 to loosen regulations of the abortion drug mifepristone and whether the challengers have standing to bring their case.

“We hope that the justices will reconsider the approval of this dangerous drug or at least reinstate the long-standing safety protocols,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Tragically, every mifepristone abortion takes the life of an unborn baby and places her mother in harm’s way.” 

“Bowing to pressure from the abortion industry, the FDA loosened the safety requirements of mifepristone which still has a black box warning,” said Tobias. “Drugs that come with black box warnings have the most dangerous side effects and safety concerns, yet the FDA is okay with mifepristone being prescribed and even mailed to women without an in-person exam.” 

The consolidated cases the Court heard today are FDA, et al. v. Alliance Hippocratic Medicine, et al. and Danco Laboratories, L.L.C. v. Alliance Hippocratic Medicine, et al. 

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the government agency that tracks the nation’s abortions, approximately 56% of all abortions are done using chemical abortion methods like mifepristone and misoprostol. In a recent report, the Guttmacher Institute, a research arm of the abortion industry, claimed that this number has risen to 63%.

“Mifepristone abortions by telehealth and third-party online sites are like the Wild West with a network of suppliers who are willing to break the few rules that exist,” said Tobias. “The current Wild West of abortion drug distribution is the direct fault of the Biden Administration and its allies who have pushed for fewer and fewer rules and safety precautions for the abortion drugs.”

Mifepristone is used in combination with misoprostol, a prostaglandin, to cause an abortion. Mifepristone blocks progesterone, leading to the death of the unborn baby, while the second drug, misoprostol, causes powerful, painful uterine contractions to expel the dead or dying baby.

The FDA recently weakened the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) requirements for the drug combination to allow it to be dispensed and even mailed by pharmacies.

“When hundreds of thousands of women take these pills, even a couple of percentage points of women hemorrhaging, dealing with infections, or ectopic pregnancy, means thousands of women desperately seeking emergency treatment, which may or may not be nearby,” said Dr. Randall K. O’Bannon, Ph.D., director of Education and Research for National Right to Life. “The FDA itself warns that these abortion drugs have the potential to send one out of every 25 women to the emergency room.  In studies from other countries that actually track complications, unlike the FDA, the number of women who go to the emergency room after taking these drugs is estimated to be as many as one out of every 10.”

Abortion Pills Will be Available with Prescription

Today, CVS and Walgreens announced that abortion drugs will be available by prescription in select states.

Walgreens announced that it will offer the pills in select pharmacies in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, California, and Illinois. A CVS representative said that the company will be offering the pills in all of its pharmacies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

“We are extremely disappointed that the two largest pharmacy chains in the United States are offering abortion drugs,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Mifepristone, the first drug in the two-drug process, was developed to take the life of an unborn child and always has the potential to harm the mother.” 

Continued Tobias, “Sadly, this life-taking drug will now occupy space on shelves next to drugs created to help and not harm patients.”

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral argument this month regarding the Food and Drug Administration’s decisions in 2016 and 2021 to loosen regulations of the abortion drug mifepristone and whether the challengers have standing to bring their case.

“We hope the justices reconsider the approval of this dangerous drug combination or at the minimum reinstate long-standing safety protocols,” said Tobias.

The consolidated cases the Supreme Court will hear are FDA, et al. v. Alliance Hippocratic Medicine, et al. and Danco Laboratories, L.L.C. v. Alliance Hippocratic Medicine, et al. 

Mifepristone is used in combination with misoprostol, a prostaglandin, to cause an abortion. Mifepristone blocks progesterone, leading to the death of the unborn baby, while the second drug, misoprostol, causes powerful, painful uterine contractions to expel the dead or dying baby.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the government agency that tracks the nation’s abortions, approximately 56% of all abortions are done using chemical abortion methods like mifepristone and misoprostol.

The FDA recently weakened the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) requirements for the drug combination to allow it to be dispensed and even mailed by pharmacies.

“Even the FDA admits that these drugs will fail or come with complications for a number of women. When hundreds of thousands of women take these pills, even a couple of percentage points of women hemorrhaging, dealing with infections, or ectopic pregnancy, means thousands of women desperately seeking emergency treatment, which may or may not be nearby,” said Dr. Randall K. O’Bannon, Ph.D., director of Education and Research for National Right to Life.

Today, National Right to Life unveiled a new logo and an updated website.

“As we look forward, our new logo retains the elements that represent National Right to Life and our mission but leans into the future as we continue our work to protect all innocent human life from fertilization to natural death,” stated Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life.

The original National Right to Life logo, two circles and a flame, represented the organization for over 50 years. It has long been understood that the flame stood for life and the circles represented abortion and euthanasia.

The new logo, a single circle with a flame, retains the meaning of the original logo but has been refreshed for a new era.

“The new logo is streamlined,” stated Tobias. “The flame is the respect for life and our passion for our mission. The circle is the continuum of life. Together, these elements will take us forward into a new era.”

WASHINGTON—Today, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey filed suit against Planned Parenthood for its alleged role in the abortion trafficking of minor girls.

The following is a statement from Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life:

We praise Attorney General Bailey for his dedication to protecting the minor daughters of Missouri. Parents shouldn’t have to fear that someone could violate the law and take their daughter over state lines to procure an abortion without their knowledge. Parents in Missouri should be able to rest easy knowing that the law protects their minor daughters from Big Abortion.

Missouri’s 2005 law protecting minor daughters prohibits anyone from causing, aiding, or assisting a minor in obtaining an abortion in violation of their parental consent law and is the first of its kind.

In 2023, Idaho passed HB 242 which prohibits an adult from procuring an abortion for a minor without the parent’s knowledge or consent by transporting the minor within the state. This was modeled on a portion of National Right to Life’s post-Dobbs model law to protect unborn children.

WASHINGTON, D.C.— On Wednesday, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) filed a friend of the court brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court to strike down the Biden administration’s mandate that federal law creates a right to abortion on demand throughout all fifty states in hospital emergency rooms. The brief supports Idaho’s pro-life law, Defense of Life Act.

“Biden’s abortion mandate has no basis in law. The federal law regulating emergency rooms was done to protect patients, not to create a right to abortion on demand,” said James Bopp, Jr., general counsel for NRLC and lead counsel on NRLC’s brief. “Biden’s abortion mandate guts the ability for states like Idaho to protect unborn life by mandating abortion on demand in emergency rooms. The High Court needs to reject Biden’s abortion mandate.” 

The Biden administration is trying to force all hospital emergency rooms to provide abortion on demand. Biden has used a federal emergency care law, which was meant to prevent patient dumping without stabilization, to mandate that hospitals must provide elective abortion services. The Ninth Circuit agreed that the Biden administration could compel all hospitals to perform abortions in their emergency rooms.

Idaho sued because Biden’s mandate overrides their state’s Defense of Life Act by forcing hospitals to provide abortion on demand, contrary to that state’s law. The Supreme Court has agreed to take up the case and decide whether Biden’s abortion mandate is constitutional. This case will determine if states can enact protective laws without clashes with the federal emergency care law.

“The Biden Administration is using EMTALA as a cudgel to force pro-life states into providing abortions,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “This is just another example of how this administration is doing everything in its power to appease pro-abortion groups by promoting unlimited abortions.”

NRLC’s brief argues that Biden’s abortion mandate under the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) is contrary to that federal law which was only meant to protect emergency room patients from being dumped and does not mandate that the hospital provide medical care that is contrary to state law.
