WASHINGTON — On the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Senate leaders highlighted a broad range of pro-life legislation through a series of unanimous consent requests focused on protecting unborn children, supporting mothers and families, and defending conscience rights.

The measures address protections for unborn children, support for pregnant women and families, conscience rights, and safeguards against abortion coercion.

“On the anniversary of Dobbs, Senate leaders demonstrated that protecting human life remains an important national priority,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “These legislative proposals recognize both the humanity of unborn children and the need to support mothers, families, and vulnerable individuals facing pressure or discrimination.”

Among the measures highlighted are legislation to protect unborn children diagnosed with Down syndrome, preserve conscience protections for health care providers, prevent taxpayer funding of abortion providers through Title X, support pregnant and parenting students, strengthen assistance for mothers and families, prohibit forced abortion, and expand protections for women and unborn children in both domestic and international policy.

WASHINGTON — National Right to Life today expressed its support for H.R. 8806, the Supporting Newborn Parents Act, legislation that would provide immediate financial assistance to working families following the birth of a child. 

“For decades, National Right to Life has advocated for policies that affirm the dignity of every human life and create a culture that values life,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “The Supporting Newborn Parents Act offers practical assistance when families need it most.”

The bill would establish a newborn tax credit of up to $2,000 per child and allow eligible parents to receive the benefit shortly after the birth of their baby, rather than waiting until the annual tax filing season. The legislation recognizes that the weeks and months immediately following childbirth often bring significant new expenses and reduced household income as parents focus on caring for and bonding with their newborn child.

The legislation would provide a refundable tax credit tied to earned income, making it accessible to working families across a broad range of income levels. Parents would have the option of receiving an advance payment after the birth of their child, helping them cover costs such as diapers, formula, clothing, medical expenses, and other necessities associated with caring for a newborn.

WASHINGTON — National Right to Life today welcomed the Food and Drug Administration’s announcement that it is moving forward with a comprehensive review of the abortion drug mifepristone and its safety record. According to multiple news reports, the FDA is conducting a large-scale analysis of hundreds of thousands of cases and will examine data related to adverse events and complications associated with the drug.

For years, pro-life advocates, medical professionals, and members of Congress have raised serious concerns about the weakening of safety protections surrounding chemical abortion. We welcome a thorough and transparent review of the evidence.

Each abortion takes the life of a preborn child and places her mother at risk. Women aborting at home are also more likely to be traumatized when they realize that they aborted a living child and not just ‘tissue’ or ‘products of conception’ as the abortion industry claims.

The abortion industry has repeatedly insisted that the safety issues surrounding chemical abortion are settled science. Yet the FDA itself has determined that additional review is appropriate. When the health and safety of women are involved, no legitimate scientific question should be off limits.

Every woman deserves the highest standard of medical care. The FDA has both the authority and the responsibility to act. We encourage the agency to conduct this review with transparency, scientific integrity, and an unwavering commitment to protecting women.
